The Hill: How does our ongoing legal battle with Ronnie Earle fit into this?
DeLay: I have no idea. We’re going to test the waters. Since I’ve been out of Congress I’ve been absolutely amazed at how supportive people have been. And also how hateful others have been. In fact, yesterday we were up on the blog for just an hour and we had over a hundred comments of the most nasty comments.100 comments that were just mean, nasty and vulgar. They used the Ronnie Earle thing saying I ought to be in prison being raped by somebody. You know, that kind of stuff, when they have no clue what the Ronnie Earle thing is and I’ve been indicted for rules that don’t even exist. But that doesn’t seem to bother the left, I’ve been convicted, I’m in prison and being raped.
The importance of the blogosphere in shaping and motivating the current conservative movement is unquestionable- not only has it served as an important tool in breaking through the liberal MSM clutter but it has helped to keep our elected officials true to principle.Eek! Spooky huh? Well his blogging attempt is short lived (75 minutes) after his first post was abruptly removed due to the huge response from his raving fans. His first post went something like this:
This blog is meant to further the online discussion in the marketplace of ideas.
I have created this blog in order to provide Americans with a new meeting place where such opinions and viewpoints might be better shared, discussed and debated; a place where conservative and traditionalist Americans might speak truth to power and to one another. Thanks to James he was able to save the post with all 111 comments before it was removed. You may have to wait awhile...the popularity of this post is more than Blogger can handle.
In all honesty, I did not fully realize the impact or potential of the blogosphere until very recently, when Red State gave me the opportunity to post some of my observations in the wake of the recent midterm elections.
Five op-eds in Sunday's Washington Post may set off an intriguing debate, pro and con. On the front page of the Post's Outlook section, famed Columbia University historian Eric Foner proposes George W. Bush as the worst president in our history -- and author Douglas Brinkley disagrees, but very slightly: He thinks Bush only ranks as poorly as Herbert Hoover.
Another historian, David Greenberg, believes that only Nixon was worst. Meanwhile, Michael Lind pegs Bush at #5 --from the bottom. But Vincent J. Cannato, a historian at the University of Massachusetts, cautions: "Today's pronouncements that Bush is the 'worst president ever' are too often ideology masquerading as history."
The Washington Post editorial page, ironically, has been a strong backer of the Iraq war from the beginning.
